Sgt. Frederick Keith Fairclough .     Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 15 OTU   from Farnworth

(d.8th April 1942)

Sgt Fairclough was killed on 8th April 1942 when 15 OTU Wellington L7818 took off from Harwell for cross country excercise. It was involved in a collision with Spitfire R6686 from 57 OTU flown by P/O J.R. Lee. Both aircraft crashed a few hundred yards apart in the valley of the Broadwater stream near Cold Ashton 9 miles ESE of Bristol, all on board the Wellington were killed as was P/O Lee and are buried in various cemeteries in the UK. Wellington crew were: W/O G.E. Leeke Sgt W.F. Good F/Sgt S.W. Pook Sgt E. Coleman Sgt F.K. Fairclough Sgt W. Wilson The Spitfire pilot was from Texas

Pte Harry Fairclough .     Queens Own Cameron Highlanders   from Leeds




Pte. Horace Chadwick Fairclough MM..     British Army

Horace Fairclough was my grandfather. I have his Military Medal and copies of the newspapers in which he is listed as being the recipient of the medal. He was also gassed and became Home Guard during WW2 and I believe he died 1947




2nd Pantryman. J. Fairclough .     Naval Auxiliary Personnel HMS Forfar

Fairclough was one of the crew of the Montrose who had transferred with the ship under the T124X agreement. He was counted amongst the survivors brought ashore when the ship went down.




F/Sgt. Mervyn James "Fairy" Fairclough .     Royal Australian Air Force 51 Squadron   from Katanning, Western Australia

Mervyn Fairclough flew Halifax III LV880 The aircraft attacked from below during a mission circa 10th of April 1944. Pilot placed the aircraft into a steep dive in an attempt to extinguish a fire on wing. This was unsuccessful. The aircraft exploding mid-dive. The plane crashed in France, killing 4 crew members who were unable to bail out. Mervyn was blown clear of the aircraft at the time of the explosion and managed to parachute safely to the ground. He managed to avoid capture for 10+ weeks supported by his efforts be-friending locals who sheltered him in hiding.

Later he was included in a larger group of downed airman delivered to the Gestapo in Paris by Belguim double-agent Jacques Desoubrie. He was transported to Buchenwald Concentration Camp 20 August 1944 before being moved to Stalag Luft III, Sagan 19 October 1944. He was liberated on 17th of May 1945 by Allied Forces.

V C Fairfield .     British Army 64th (7th London) Field Regiment. Royal Artillery

V.Fairfield served with the 64th Field Regiment Royal Artillery in WW2.

F/O. William Chard Fairgrieve .     Royal Canadian Air Force 428 Squadron   from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

(d.17th Aug 1944)

Flying Officer (Pilot) William Fairgrieve was the son of William T. and Claire C. Fairgrieve of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, husband of Marjorie K. Fairgrieve. He was 25 years old when he died and is buried in the Sejero Cemetery in Denmark.

Ronald Victor Fairley .     Royal Air Force No. 576 Squadron (d.29th Jan 1944)

Ronald Fairley was my Daddy whom I never met, as I was only 4 months old when he died. He is buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery in Charlottenburg, Berlin.
