Lucien Xavier Favreaux .       from Reims, France

My grandfather was French and captured by the German's sometime during WWII. He was held at Stalag 6A for a number of years. He was a skilled mechanic and had worked in a foundary in France. He lied when asked what his occupation was and told the Germans he was a gardener. He did not want to be put to work at a job that would aid their war effort. He came home at the end of the war and was reunited with his family but they all said he was very thin.

Private Albert Fawcett .     British Army Seaforth Highlanders   from Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland

Albert Fawcett was my uncle on my father's side. He moved to Scotland from Co. Durham in the north of England when he was a young man. He joined the Seaforth Highlanders from the Perth Infantry Office. I do have some information on him, but not a lot. He was a POW in Camp 344 at Lambinowice. Albert lived in Carnoustie until he died in 1986. He was married there and never came back to Durham. I do have a photo of Albert in his kilt which I am very proud of.




Pte. Albert Fawcett .     British Army Seaforth Highlanders   from Canoustie, Angus

My Uncle Albert was my father's brother born in Coundon Gate, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, England in 1915. When he got to age of about 17 he left home. He went to Canoustie and he settled there,(why he went to Scotland we don't know). He meet my aunt and never came back to Durham.

He joined the Seaforth Highlanders (Albert Fawcett, rank Private, army number 2819926,pow number 5766, name of camp Lambinowice in Poland.

He joined up in Perth, records office number 16. I do have a photo of him in full dress uniform, which I am very proud of. Albert made Scotland his home, he married there in 1945 he worked there and he died there in 1987. He realy did love Canoustie,as my wife and myself do also. Thank very much.

Jack "Chuck" Fawcett .     British Army 102nd Provost Coy. Royal Military Police   from Wawne, Yorkshire

Jack Fawcett served with the 8th Hussars and 3rd Hussars in the 1920's. He re-enlisted in the Corps of Military Police in December 1939 and served in France in 1940 and North Africa and the Middle East from 1942 onwards. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Defence Medal and War Medal.

Sgt. Robert Fawcett .     Royal Air Force 220 Sqd

My father, Sgt. Robert Fawcett, W/OP or T/Gun. with 220 Squadron, based at Thornaby,1940/41, was reported missing June 1941, flying out of Wick. My mother Margaret Dixon, and was originally from Halton, Lancs. I was born after Bob was lost, and would love to hear from anyone who may have come into contact with him during his service.

Pilot Rowland Fawcett was killed on m 2nd Jan 1944 flying Lancaster III JA925 GT-La of 156 Sqn from RAF Wickenby




WO2. Herman Stanley Fawns .     Royal Canadian Air Force 431 (Iroquois) Squadron   from Uxbridge

(d.22nd June 1943)

On the night of the 21st/22nd of June 1943 Wellington HF518 took off at 23.33hrs from RAF Burn for an operation on Krefeld. One of 705 aircraft that took part in this operation. The visibility was extremely good that evening and the city was very heavily bombed. Much damage was caused and many lives lost with almost half of the city being burned out. Over 70,000 lost their homes. 44 aircraft were lost on this operation. Wellington HF518 may have been hit by flak or shot down by an enemy night fighter and was lost without trace.

I found a document a few years ago on the Internet, translated from German, about the recovery of the plane and bodies on the ocean shore in German held territory. Bodies were identified by their tags. I will try to find it again for your documentation. Stanley Fawns was my father's step-brother.




L/Sgt. John Joseph Fay .     British Army 2nd Btn. Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (d.13th Sep 1943)




L/Sgt. John Joseph Fay .     Bristish Army 2nd Btn. Royal Northumberland Fusiliers   from Liverpool

(d.13th Sep 1943)

Lance Sergeant John Joseph Fay was born in 1917 in Liverpool, the son of William and Margaret Fay and brother to Bernard, Joseph, James and Patrick. He was posted to Italy in the Allied push of 1943 at Salerno with the 2nd Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers on the 3rd September.

He paid the ultimate price on 13th September and is buried in the Allied War Graves Cemetery in Salerno Grave. The family legend says that he was killed by being decapitated whilst in action. He was survived by brothers Patrick and Bernard who also fought across Europe and who both lived out their lives back in the UK, passing in their sleep many years later.




PO Reginald Jack "Reg" Fayers .     RAF 76 Squadron   from Sudbury, Suffolk

My grandfather, Reginald Fayers, flew Halifaxes with the 76 Squadron during WW2. He was the navigator. He was shot down on the 25/26 November 1943 after a raid on Frankfurt and became a POW. Three members of the crew managed to bale out at 8000' as the pilot fought for control. Tom Paton the bomb aimer and Sgt Flewell USAAF along with my grandfather were the 3. The pilot Steve Troake, Phil Weeks, Lou Barnes and Ruben Orr all died in the crash.




HE Fayle .     British Army

Sgt. Thomas Fazakerley .     Royal Air Force 49 Sqdn. (d.29th March 1943)

Sgt Fazakerley was killed on 29th March 1943 when his Lancaster was shot down over Germany. The members of the crew were: Sgt McCracken, WO McNutt, P/O Cullum, Sgt Robertson, Sgt Fyffe and Sgt Link.

WO McNutt, and Sgts Robertson and Fazakerley are all buried in Raalte General Cemetery, Graves 6 to 8.




TA Feak .     British Army 4th Queens Own Hussars

TA Feak served with the 4th Queens Own Hussars British Army. I have his unissued dogtags, made in preparation for deployment to the Far East and would love to get them home to his family. My dad served in Italy with the RAMC and the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment.




Pte. George Austin Fear .     British Army 2nd Btn. Somerset Light Infantry   from Somerset

George Fear was injured in Italy on 11th of December 1944.




2Lt. Percy Reginald Currie Fear .     British Army 475th Battery Royal Artillery (d.22nd September 1940)

Percy Fear was injured due to war operations. He died in Royal Victoria Hospital, Boscombe, Bournemouth.

Frederick Fearn was my grandad who served in the Royal Navy. I never got to know him as he died in August 1976, I was born a few moths later.
