Flt.Sgt Denys William Lewis . Royal Air Force 50 Squadron
Denys William Lewis was a Flight Sergeant in 50 Squadron and was posted missing after the 21st February 1945. The telegram was sent to his mother telling them he was missing after air operations. On the 25th February 1945 they had a second telegram telling them that he was safe and back in the UK. The family suggest he had bailed out over Holland and came back across the North Sea. Can anyone tell me what operations he was on that night?

My Father was in the one of the Tank Regiments I believe they had Churchill Tanks.I think he might have been a regular solder.

My dad, George Lewis served at the shore base HMS Lanka from 14th of June 1942 to 23rd of May 1945 with various breaks at Beach Radio Station No1 Ceylon. During most of his early navy career he did a lot of boxing but an accident on HMAS Norman in Feb 42 put him in hospital for a number of months. Here is a photo which we found amongst his papers which has not got any annotation as to where or when it was taken, if anyone can shed any light on it our family would be very grateful.

Spr. Granville Raeburn Lewis . British Army 159 Railway Construction Coy. Royal Engineers
My brother Spr. Granville Raeburn Lewis, 159 Railway Construction Corp. Royal Engineers survived the Lancastria. I recall he was picked up by a British destroyer and taken to Plymouth, where he was cleaned up, the oil removed etc. He was a member of The Survivors Association.

The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.
The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
