My Mum was in the land army and I remember her telling me about the baby mice that would geting her hair and how she would tuck her pants into her socks to stop the mice running up her legs. She is my hero.

James Henry Tapp .     Royal Canadian Air Force 426 Squadron   from Toronto, Ontario

My brother James Tapp was one of 7 children, all girls but him. Our Father hated to see his only son leave to join up but was so proud as he was a Vimy Ridge veteran and knew there was a job to be done. All of my sisters and I were so proud of him as he came in the CNE grounds, marched with his head held so high, it was all over for him and he was home once again where we sisters could spoil him once more. I am the youngest of the seven. Jim has gone but I will never cease to be proud of his memory. Miss him!!

My father was Sgt. Harry Tapper, #13007264 US Army. He was captured in North Africa and taken to Stalag Luft 3, then he went to Stalag 13D. This is all of the information that I have been able to find to date, I would love to know more.

Sgt. John Walter Tarbitten .     British Army Army Air Corps   from Hull, Yorkshire, England

Jack Tarbitten was captured at Arnhem and transferred to Stalag XII-A where he was held from the 2nd of October to the 28th of November 1944. Then he was transferred to Stalag IV-B arriving on the 2nd of December 1944, until he left on 4th of May 1945 after the German guards left and before the Russians arrived.

My grandfather, Fl Lt Tarkowski, was a Polish Pilot with 315 and 307 squadrons. Before he flew with 315 he was an instructor with 58 O.T.U I am looking for any archive material that covers his time there, as I am trying to research his war service.

Lt. Tom Tarmey .     British Army

My great uncle Tom Tarney took part in D-Day, leading his men off the landing craft onto Sword Beach. He landed with the Northumberland Fusiliers. I don't know much more about Tom, but I do know he got to the Reichstag in Berlin in 1945 and actually found a piece of paper with Adolf Hitler's signature on it, which we have at home.

Bertie Tarr served as an Armourer with 613 Sqd at RAF Lasham in Hampshire

My father Bertram Tarr was stationed at Lasham as an Leading Aircraftman Armourer. He talked fondly of the De Havilland Mosquito and actually lost the hearing in one ear when a canon round exploded . I believe he transferred with 613 Squadron to Cambrai in Belgium after D Day. He passed away in 1988




Sergeant Charles Francis Tarr .     RAF RCAF 432 Squadron (d.14th Jan 1944)

My Father, Sgt. Charles Francis Tarr, Service # 1068226, British born, and a member of the RAF. He was assigned to the 432 squadron RCAF, and lost his life on a raid in January 14, 1944. I was born later that year, and obviously have only emotional and brief family stories and no living memory of this great man. I am trying in my senior and retirement years to build a history of his service and death in action. Frank Tarr frank@no-rain.com




Lionel Albert Jack Tarr .     British Army 3rd Btn Gunners

My grandad Lionel Tarr passed away before I was able to get a description of Stalag 12A. He fought with the 3rd Btn Gunners at Arnhem.

The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.

The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
