249582 Able Sea. Thomas Eyres Royal Navy HMS Urley from:Manchester My dad, Thomas Eyres, volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1943 at the age of 16. He did not speak much about his time at sea except that he was in the Indian Ocean and around Burma and Malaya. He was on HMS Lanka from 17th of August 1945 to 30th of Novemeber 1945 and later 21st of April 1946 ro 22nd of May 1946. I know that he was a qualified PFF from Feb 1944 but am unsure what this is. We only found this out when writing his eulogy after he died aged 86. He was trained on HMS Drake and served on HMS Urley, Nightjar, Valkyrie, Highflyer and Bambara as well as Lanka. I also know that he was in the concert party on some ships. I am now trying to find more information to pass on to his grandson.
