Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted
photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them.
The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

PO. Sidney James Harber HMS Pembroke My father, Sidney Harber enlisted as an Air Fitter and served in HMS Pembroke, Gosling, Daudaleus, Lanka, Highflyer and Bambara.

John Peter Hamilton Stevens HMS Europa I have been going through the extensive family tree left by my late mother and found some outline details about my father's war time service. He, John Stevens served on HMS Europa, HMS Turquoise and HMS Bamabara, the latter during a posting in Ceylon. I have some photos of my father in naval uniform but nothing that ties directly to the ships themselves.

Air Mech.(E) Norman Alfred Richardson Fleet Air Arm Whilst working on my family history, I have discovered that my father, Norman Richardson, began his war service in the Royal Air Force in 1942 and subsequently transferred to the Fleet Air Arm in 1944. He is recorded as serving on HMS Fencer at the end of the war and also as part of the ships company of HMS Bambara from 26 December 1945 to 17th July 1946.
I would love to know if there is any information out there about the men Norman would have served with as he passed away in 2010 but rarely spoke about his war service.

Able Sea. Edward John Wright HMS Lanka My father Ted" Wright served in the Royal Navy during WW2 from 20th of September 1943 until his medical discharge on 4th of May 1947.
His training took place in various shore stations, including HMS Ganges, Pembroke, St Christopher, Drake, Hornet, Attack (ML303), Skirmisher (ML303) before setting sail for Gibraltar on 22nd of October 1944 aboard HMS Lanka (ML303).
I have a long list of his ports of call from Algiers to Vizagapatam where the ship arrived on 19th of August 1945.
He was based in Trincomolee, Ceylon on HMS High Flyer and HMS Bambara from the end of the war until his discharge.
I have many photos of boats and shipmates none of which has any form of identification.
He did have a little green notebook where he jotted down some names - presumably his shipmates. I list them below in case one of them (or their relatives) are seeking information.

John Lawlor was obviously a bit of a poet and I have in my possession a poem written by him about the trip from Milford Haven to Gibraltar.

Able Sea. Thomas Eyres HMS Urley My dad, Thomas Eyres, volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1943 at the age of 16. He did not speak much about his time at sea except that he was in the Indian Ocean and around Burma and Malaya. He was on HMS Lanka from 17th of August 1945 to 30th of Novemeber 1945 and later 21st of April 1946 ro 22nd of May 1946. I know that he was a qualified PFF from Feb 1944 but am unsure what this is. We only found this out when writing his eulogy after he died aged 86. He was trained on HMS Drake and served on HMS Urley, Nightjar, Valkyrie, Highflyer and Bambara as well as Lanka. I also know that he was in the concert party on some ships. I am now trying to find more information to pass on to his grandson.
